Altar Guild
“Hands and hearts given in service to the greater glory of God.”
The Altar Guild ministry involves preparing the altar and worship space for services, including Sunday morning liturgy, Holy Week services, baptisms, weddings, and funerals.
It is a quiet ministry with a focus on details. We prepare the altar before services and clean the altar after services, care for sacred vessels and linens, hang the correct paraments for the current liturgical season and have the vestments ready for the priest to wear each service. Our work also includes polishing the brass and silver, refilling and replacing candles, dusting and vacuuming the altar area and washing and ironing the many linens used each week.
A special thank you goes out to our “port elves”. These are individuals who have made the commitment to ensure that we have all the elements that we need to celebrate the Eucharist every Sunday.
As the old adage goes, “many hands make light work.” The Altar Guild is always seeking new volunteers. If you are interested in learning more about this quiet, behind the scenes ministry, please contact Janet Kazar. We welcome all who seek to honor and serve the Lord, by helping to create and maintain the space where we all gather to worship together.
